Naturopathic Approach to Female Health
Female Hormonal Health
Hormones influence many aspects of female health, including the menstrual cycle, fertility, mood, energy levels, skin health, sleep, and metabolism. Because hormones interact with multiple systems throughout the body, imbalances can affect women in different ways and at different stages of life.
Many factors can influence hormonal wellbeing, including stress, nutrition, sleep quality, digestive health, physical activity, and underlying medical conditions. Whether you are experiencing PMS (premenstrual syndrome), PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder), PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome), also referred to as PMOS (polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome), endometriosis, hormonal acne, fertility concerns, or symptoms associated with perimenopause and menopause, a personalised approach can help identify the factors most relevant to your individual circumstances.
At our clinic, we take a personalised approach to identifying factors that may be contributing to your symptoms while supporting your individual health goals. Whether you are seeking support for cycle irregularities, hormone related skin concerns, reproductive health, fertility, or navigating perimenopause and menopause, recommendations are tailored to your individual needs and circumstances.
What Can You Do About It?
There are many lifestyle and nutritional strategies that can support female health and hormonal wellbeing. Maintaining a balanced diet, regular movement, adequate sleep, stress management, and healthy blood sugar regulation can all contribute positively to hormonal health.
However, in many cases there may be underlying factors requiring more personalised attention. At our naturopathic and herbal medicine clinic, we utilise traditional herbal medicine informed by current scientific evidence, nutraceuticals such as vitamins and minerals, nutritional support, lifestyle medicine, and functional testing where appropriate. Combining these modalities gives us a better opportunity to not only support symptom management, but also identify and address factors that may be contributing to hormonal and reproductive health concerns.
Herbal Medicine
At our clinic, we create fully bespoke personalised herbal protocols. Depending on your individual needs, these may include herbs traditionally used to support menstrual health, hormonal balance, reproductive wellbeing, stress resilience, and a healthy transition through perimenopause and menopause.
Depending on your individual health history, additional herbal medicine extracts may also be considered to ensure your health is supported in a comprehensive and personalised manner. As every woman is unique, herbal prescriptions are tailored to your individual symptoms, health goals, and stage of life.
Women's Health Testing
Where appropriate, we may recommend additional testing and investigations to help provide further insight into your health concerns. We regularly review existing blood tests, hormone panels, fertility investigations, and medical reports as part of the assessment process. Where further conventional testing may be beneficial, we may recommend discussing appropriate investigations with your GP or other primary healthcare providers. Testing can be useful in assessing areas such as nutritional status, thyroid function, blood sugar regulation, reproductive hormones, inflammatory markers, and other factors that may influence female health and wellbeing.
We also offer a wide range of functional medicine testing options where appropriate. Depending on your symptoms and health goals, this may include comprehensive hormone testing such as DUTCH testing, adrenal hormone profiles, microbiome testing, detoxification and metabolic pathway assessments, as well as selected genetic (DNA SNP) testing. These tests can provide additional information that may help guide a more personalised naturopathic support plan.
Our Approach
At our clinic, we take an evidence-based, highly personalised, and integrative approach to complementary medicine. Rather than relying on a single therapy, we combine clinical herbal medicine, nutraceutical support, nutrition, and lifestyle medicine to create individualised plans tailored to each client's needs. Where appropriate, we also utilise functional testing and review existing blood tests, medical reports, and investigations to help build a more complete picture of your health. We believe the best outcomes are often achieved when complementary and conventional healthcare work together, and we are always happy to collaborate with your GP, consultant, or other healthcare providers as part of your support plan.
By combining evidence-based herbal medicine, nutritional support, lifestyle interventions, and appropriate testing, we aim to provide comprehensive support that addresses both your current symptoms and your long-term health goals.
